The finale of Matthew’s Gospel is also the last Gospel of our church year. It should come as no surprise that this Gospel appears in Matthew only verses before Jesus’ passion begins. As followers of Jesus, we cannot separate the suffering of this world from our suffering King and Lord, Jesus Christ. If we want to be close to Jesus in our life and death, we will want to go looking for him in the faces of those who are in need in our world. It is here that Jesus will be. It is here that he wants to be as well, so that we may love him by loving and serving our neighbor.
